An included free feature of the Starboard software is the ability to network and conference
between boards (up to 40 at any one time) in different locations.
Each board takes the IP address of the computer it is connected to. Although VoIP is also
possible, voice communications is usually via an audio conferencing system.
When the conference icon is clicked, users have a number of options available to them including:
|
|
*
Act as a Host
|
Initiates a conference including pre-set conference groups
Other Starboard users are either automatically notified of the
conference start and have the option to join in or decline.
.
|
|
* Apply to join as a client
|
If a conference is in progress, another user can request to join in
The host can either permit or deny them access to ensure those
not permitted do not have access to sensitive material
.
|
|
Once a session is underway, any participant has the ability to bring up any image, document etc.
from their computer and allow the image to appear on all participating systems. Anyone can then
annotate on-top of the image, introduce clip art or move / manipulate / erase anyone else's
annotations. When a new image is introduced, the previous one is automatically save into the
notebook feature.
.
|
|
* Free Session or Managed
|
Depending on the number of participants, the session can be set
up so that all have access to annotate and move objects at any
time or to be controlled by one participants who allows other users
in turn access to write to avoid confusion
.
|
|
* Privacy
|
If any participant wishes to access their own computers to review
or search files, they can do so without the others seeing what is
being done, thus protecting their privacy.
.
|
|
* Video Conferencing
|
The Starboard software also works with a number of video
conferencing platforms allowing greater synchronisation and
flexibility.

** Scenario 1
|
Company A has a number of offices situated within the UK as well
as overseas. Meetings are held on a regular basis where staff
members drive / fly to central points to discuss plans and
documentation.
By utilising the Interactive Whiteboard - they can now discuss their
documents in real time without having to leave their offices.
This represents a huge saving in physical travel costs as well as
lost man-hours between locations.
.
|
|
** Scenario 2
|
Company B has a number of Design Sales Representatives who
need to visit clients and discuss design plans. These are taken
back to their design offices for changes and up-dating before
returning to the client. This process can happen several times
before final agreement and take days or weeks.
By utilising Tablet Laptop PCs with the Starboard software, the
Design Reps can now sit with their client and network back to their
design offices. Now, they can have a live session with themselves,
client and designer to discuss, move and change ideas.
This represents a huge saving in completion times and speeds up
processes considerably.

|
** Scenario 3
|
The Emergency Services of 'Blankshire' County has equipped their
operational headquarters, out stations and Mobile response
vehicles with a range of Hitachi Cambridge systems including
interactive boards, touch screen plasmas and panels.
Instead of having to bring officers and Operational Management /
Incident Control Teams to central briefing points, this can be done
at any time, from any location in real time.
It also means if there are any changes to the situation, time is not
lost re-convening briefings centrally but can be set up immediately
with any party contributing to the scenario, be that updating maps,
showing pictures and more.
This represents a significant improvement in speed of reaction and
communications.
